What if we’ve missed it? Is it possible that there is more to prayer than we thought? Two thousand years ago, Jesus pulled His disciples aside and taught them to pray. As we examine those instructions, we can easily find the disconnect between His teaching and the way we typically approach prayer. Beginning Sunday, October 7th we will begin a 40 Days of Prayer journey to help us discover, or rediscover, God’s heartbeat when it comes to prayer. We want to encourage everyone to make this journey a priority in our lives. The 40 Days of Prayer will have several elements to help us stretch and grow, including:
Campus Specific Message Series- During the Sunday Worship Gatherings, Pastor Trent, Pastor Joe, and Pastor Steve will preach a different series on their campus on the topic of prayer. Why? Because there is so much to cover! During the week, the whole Zion family can listen online to the other two pastors and get additional teaching, inspiration and perspective on the topic of prayer.
Life Group DVD Series on prayer- All of our Life Groups will meet weekly and work through a DVD series to continue to learn, grow, and discuss ways to make prayer a more central part of our journey as a disciple of Jesus. If you are NOT in a Life Group, this would be a great chance to get plugged in!
Prayer Journal- We encourage the whole church family to purchase the 40 Days of Prayer journal. The journal will help you to take daily steps on your own to grow in your prayer life. The journal also includes some great bonus material you can go back to again and again. The journal cost is $10 and will be available starting on September 16th.
Weekly Prayer Challenge- Each Sunday we will share a prayer challenge to help you put into practice the habit of prayer in practical, intentional, and missional ways.
40 Hours of Prayer- As a church family, we will come together at the end of the 40 Days of Prayer journey for forty hours of prayer. Families, friends, and individuals will be challenged to sign up to pray for one hour at their local campus.
Celebration Sunday- 40 Days of Prayer will end on November 18th with a special Concert of Prayer and our Celebration Offering (more details to follow).
